New Shaft Range - KAM HD and KAM Aerospace Shafts
KAM shafts have greater flexibility and are up to 51% stronger than standard OEM shafts. The KAM shafts have been used for the last 18 years in many trial & competition vehicles world wide. In the last 3 years KAM supplied over 10,000 shafts, of which many were supplied to the Military and competition applications.We produce two types of shaft, HD and Aero space be are the descriptions of the different version.
Heavy Duty These are made from a far higher grade material than the original manufacture, they have our specialist heat treatment applied. They are suitable for most heavy off road applications. As can been seen from the test data sheets they achieve a far higher twist and torque level before they break.
Aerospace
This specification of shaft is made from aero space industry grade material. The material is put though a three stage process heat treatment. KAM aerospace shaft are considerably stronger, below lists out the extra processes that are applied.
Shot peening to give better fatigue life. Cryogenic thermal treated to increases the shaft life wear life and durability.
Polished to remove machining marks which adds to durability and resistance to wear and fatigue.
KAM believe they produce one of the best shaft available anywhere in the world. Please see independent test report on KAM’s own HD and Aerospace shafts. The testing was undertaken by an independent ISO 9001 company.

Shaft types and spline identification.
KAM shaft can be fitted as a direct replacement to the OEM originals and will fit all types of cv and diff centers excluding 10 splne carrers. We only produce 24 spline for the diff centers. It is not possible to produce a shaft in 10 spline tooth form that has the same strength as the 24 spline.
If you have a 10 spline diff fitted to all 2A - 3S and most 110 ,90, Range Rovers to >1983 you will have to change the 2 pinion 10 spline carrier for a 24 spline 2 pinion carrier ( We have these in stock as good second hand units) or more preferred to change to a KAM HD 4 pinion carrier, LSD carrier or diff locker which are all 24 spline as standard.
KAM 23 spline OEM 32 splin OEM 10 spline KAM 24 spline

We do manufacture front 32 spline shafts and they do achieve a higher strength and are less expensive than original Land Rover but ultimately the 23 spline shafts are far stronger.
If you have 32 spline shafts fitted then we would recommend that you use our CV conversion kit and change at the same time both the shafts to 23 spline on the CV end and up rate to the Aerospace CV with the fusible stub shaft system.
As can be seen the 23 spline shafts are considerably stronger, this is due to the larger cross sectional area of the larger 23 spline shaft.

The 23 spline tooth form is the same as Land Rovers original but was only fitted to pre <1987 front axles. The KAM shaft will fit as a direct replacement in to these CV’s.

Please always check your axle type and if a axle suffix number is available then ask KAM to identify. Where possible remove shaft to identify type as hub and swivel housing could have been changed.

The KAM part number system gives all the information you will require to order the correct shaft ie: Short long, vehicle type, spline number, Length, Oil seal, HD Heavy duty or AS Aerospace.

Test data on Land Rover shafts
A request has been made by a number of defense contractors to supply imperical test data on the KAM heavy duty components. KAM have commissioned an independent report on the strength of the OEM Land Rover shafts compared to KAM’s own HD and Aerospace shafts. The testing was undertake buy a ISO 9001 company.
